I was going to wait until I had more, and better, pictures. And maybe gave it a wash. It looks like I won't have time for that today, so here it is!
It's a '97 GLT with 167xxx miles. I paid $250 for it, because the previous owners didn't know what to do with it after a shop quoted them 5k to get it to pass emissions. Yes, you read that right. Five. Thousand. Dollars. It needs an air pump relay, and has an evap leak. Aside from that, it just needs various dried out rubber components replaced. The whole thing is very clean inside and out. There's even a fair amount of service records from the previous previous owner. (The singular previous owners never really had it serviced, they just tried to get it registered and found that it couldn't pass emissions).
So, yeah. I'm super excited, having driven a Hyundai for the last 18 months. Now my wife can have the econobox all to herself.

Congrats, new cars are always awesome, even if they aren't running quite right.
In Washington there is a law that if you spend $150 trying to get your car to pass emissions and it still won't pass you get an exemption and you can still register it. I really like it because, it keeps shady mechanics from screwing people over who are trying to get their car registered.

We have something somewhat similar, but I feel like most people don't know about it. Also, the "deductible" for this car would be $450, I can easily spend less than that.

I picked up an inspected Volvo 240 for $500 this month. Great cars.

Which code is it throwing? My '98 V70 XC throws the P0442 on the daily for a presumably busted "J-Hose" on the charcoal canister. It's easy to fix on your 850, but requires a whole rear subframe drop on my XC.

I can't remember, but that could very well be it. The specific description was "canister flow restriction". I'm hoping to dig a little deeper tomorrow.
